Powerful Information at Your Fingertips

About Network Computing's Storage and Servers Channel
On Network Computing's Storage and Servers channel, our real-world technology editors cover products that sit at the heart of the data center, including storage solutions and server-side hardware and operating system software such as Windows, Unix and Linux. As in all areas of IT, it's all about doing more with less. With that in mind, we cover server virtualization a technology that continue to emerge as a key data center capability, enabling IT to split one physical server into multiple isolated virtual environments. The virtual environments are sometimes called virtual private servers, but they are also known as partitions, guests, instances, containers or emulations. On the server hardware side, we cover dual-core x86 sytems that are taking the server world by storm, led by new systems from Intel and AMD. We also cover blade servers, which offer key capabilities in the areas of power, cooling and management, enabling data center streamlining and consolidation. On the software side, we've tracked Microsoft's attempt to strike back at the Linux juggernaut with the release of its Longhorn server and Vista Desktop. As for storage, we've covered a variety of approaches including storage area networks, or SANs, and network-attached storage, or NAS, as they continue to evolve and come down in price. We also cover the efforts by upstart iSSCI technology to take on Fibre Channel in the big-enterprise SAN market. Check out our reviews, tests and analysis of storage and server technologies and products, and don't miss the latest storage and server news, white papers and featured sites on the topic of storage and servers.
